Branding with Brains

Branding with Brains talks about how when a brand is relevant it can be used to influence one's behavior. Some things that I always think are relevant are things that are needed in our daily lives such as; toothpaste, shampoo, soap, clothing, shoes, and deodorant.

When I used to think of the brand Old Spice my thoughts were simple " I think that's the stuff my Grandpa wears". Now I love my Grandpa dearly but I definitely did not want my significant other to wear the same deodorant as him. At least I didn't, but now Old Spice has completely revamped their brand making it something for everyone not just older males. Now they have funny commercials that make you really believe that Old Spice is better than your average deodorant.

Now, my husband wears Old Spice and I actually love it. Old Spice did something that is not easy to do but they were able to revamp their entire brand and they have done a great job of it.

Branding and Marketing

Whenever I think of creating a loyal brand I always think of McDonalds, why because "I'm loving it". McDonalds has done a great job of keeping their message simple and people love it. They market themselves on food that is cheap, easy to get to because of their many locations, and convenient. Their brand is not known for being classy or high end, but long standing and profitable. The McDonalds brand is recognizable because whenever you see those golden arches you know exactly what you are looking at and what you can get.  Even though some may think of the movie Supersize Me when they think of McDonalds, the fact of the matter is that they have made many changes to their brand to show people that their food is not the worst out there in the fast food industry. When I was young and when we were good we could go to McDonalds get a happy meal and play at the playground and it was a treat. McDonalds has always had their happy meals and therefore since I have such fond memories of getting them while I was young, as I'm sure many do, people have a loyalty to their brand. Loyalty to a brand is extremely important in making your brand as long standing as McDonalds is.

Pet Peeves in Elements of Style

I really hate it when people do not use proper English when they are talking or writing. I especially hate the word ain't. I think it makes people sound less intelligent because they are not using the proper words. I also do not like it when people don't know how to spell or correctly use the words to, too, and two. I know that we use spellcheck for almost everything these days but it should not give us an excuse to not learn the proper way to speak and write. Spellcheck does not catch everything which is why we need to learn the correct way to speak and write so that we can catch our mistakes when we do make them.
